Faber Group Sports Patrick van Ochten and Scuba Diving
Our colleague Patrick van Ochten (45), Manager Business Information Management at IPP Holding in Eindhoven, Netherlands is a passionate Scuba Diving Instructor.
“My journey into the depths began on a vacation in Tenerife. Enchanted by the island's vibrant marine life and crystalline waters, I dared myself to sign up for a beginner's scuba diving course. Little did I know that this daring decision would chart the course of my future.
The initial dive was surreal, an otherworldly experience where I felt an overwhelming sense of care for the ocean and its inhabitants. Guided by a passionate instructor, I quickly realized the importance of responsible diving and marine conservation. This newfound love for the underwater world ignited a burning desire to deliver the same awe-inspiring experience to others.
Returning home to the Netherlands, I enrolled in advanced diving courses and worked diligently, often pushing the boundaries of my comfort zone. I balanced my day job while training to become a certified diving instructor. The values of care, dare, and deliver became my mantra. I cared deeply for the environment and my students, dared to take on challenges, and delivered exceptional training experiences.
After years of rigorous training and accumulating countless dives, I earned my certification as a professional scuba diving instructor. But my dream didn't stop there. I envisioned bringing the magic of scuba diving to the Netherlands, where the underwater world holds its own unique charm. Thus, I founded my own scuba diving school.

In our school, we emphasized not only skill and safety but also the value of caring for our waters. Our instructors, all handpicked, embodied the principles of care and dare. They inspired students to respect marine life and challenge themselves to grow.
However, as the school grew, so did my other commitments. Balancing the demands of the school with my personal and professional life became increasingly challenging. Recognizing that I couldn't dedicate the time needed to maintain the school's standards, I made the difficult decision to hand over the reins to a trusted colleague, a fellow instructor who shared my passion and values.
Under his leadership, the school has continued to thrive, attracting enthusiasts from across the country. Limiting class sizes ensures personalized attention and an intimate, impactful learning experience. With each course, students discover the same love for the underwater world that started my journey.
From a novice diver to a professional instructor and business owner, my path was paved with passion and perseverance. Today, while I no longer run the school, it stands as a beacon of excellence and environmental stewardship in the Netherlands, a place where dreams dive deep, carried forward by the capable hands of my colleague. Whenever time permits, I still slip into my wetsuit and dive into the waters, reconnecting with the ocean that started it all.”
